Indonesia (Part 2)

June to September 2005

As our plane landed in Bali, it felt almost like coming home. Familiar signs of Indonesia were already visible in the airport. After struggling for the past month to understand Malay, everyone spoke suddenly clearly. Details we had forgotten reappeared: the typical expressions, the curbside food stalls, the street vendors carrying piles of goods, the temple decorations hanging over the road. The Indonesians constantly asked us where we came from, and seeing how well we could speak, wondered how many years we had lived in Indonesia. It was time to think of a new answer!
